Is Crystal Maze Bingo No Longer On Jackpotjoy?

Published On 3rd October 2023

Back in August we told you that the Blox Bingo room had been replaced at Jackpotjoy (and other Bally's powered sites) by Bingo Times. We also noted that Game Show Bingo had quietly been moved on by the platform. Well there's more room closures going on across Bally's as Crystal Maze Bingo has vanished from the roster. The room which launched in 2018 was based on the cult TV show and included a Crystal Dome bonus round where players had to collect gold tokens for the chance to win free tickets. This leaves Jackpotjoy and co with mainly traditional bingo rooms aside from Bubble Up Bingo.

Why Has Crystal Maze Bingo Closed?

Bingo rooms tend to close for one of two reasons. Either it's not performing very well and players aren't engaged with it or in the case of themed rooms a license has reached an end of term and it's a good time to part ways. With Crystal Maze Bingo we'd suggest it's a combo of the two! Whilst as a concept it was a great idea it never really seemed to grasp the interest of bingo players. In our view the revival of Crystal Maze with Richard Ayode never hit the target in the same way as the original with Richard O'Brien. If no one cared for the TV show then a bingo version was never going to catch on. Secondly if you did play the bingo game then the only way to get the most out of it was to purchase six tickets otherwise you couldn't play the bonus game. That makes it an expensive option compared to other bingo rooms on Jackpotjoy. And why play 60p for a small jackpot when you could pay less for the chance to win more?

Does Closing Bingo Rooms Work?

Jackpotjoy or Bally's aren't the only platform closing bingo rooms. Recently we posted that Cash Out Bingo and Friends Bingo had both been dropped from the roster at Foxy, Gala, Ladbrokes and Coral. Bingo Roulette has been dropped at Wink Bingo and others on the old Dragonfish set-up whilst Prize Land Bingo, the reincarnated version of Iceland Bingo, and had a raison d'etre thanks to it's prize bingo roons now no longer has any active prize bingo rooms. Also earlier in the year Mecca Bingo removed Britain's Got Talent Bingo from their roster. Closing rooms obviously needs to happen at times but in the past we've seen it as a catalyst for the demise of bingo. Good examples of this are Kitty Lucky Pants and more recently BingoCams. They closed rooms due to lack of interest possibly in the hope that interest in the remaining rooms would increase. However the result was less interest in the other rooms. So bad was the decline that the sites either switched platforms (Kitty and Lucky Pants) or closed down (BingoCams). Closing bingo rooms therefore isn't a great idea but there's a bigger issue to consider.

Losing Interest In Bingo?

Entain can close a bingo room here and there because they regularly offer something new to players. For example they've added Slingo Bingo to their line-up plus hold a monthly £150K Big Bingo Game. Mecca also run bingo promos and replaced BGT Bingo with Loose Women. However Jackpotjoy have not only dropped some of their bingo rooms but actively reduced promotions involving bingo. Can you remember when they offered anything other than free spins as prizes? If you look at the promos page it's headline by slots, casino and poker. Bingo only gets a nod for the Bingo Planner and Super Jackpot, both promos that never seem to change. That's not to say that rooms like Superlinks, Session Bingo, Sapphire, Bingo 80, Bubble Up and Joy Bingo aren't worth visiting, far from it, but as a bingo player I'm looking for value for money - and that includes promotions, prizes, free bingo etc. We've mentioned on here before that we think some operators are losing interest in bingo. Most certainly the landscape is shifting dramatically and we're expecting more seismic changes. Players shouldn't necessarily worry though because brands like Buzz, Gala, Tombola and Mecca will be more than happy to accommodate.
