Foxy Cash Out Their Friends Bingo?

Published On 31st August 2023

Foxy Bingo have a wide range of different bingo rooms that offer themes such as Coronation Street, Deal Or No Deal and Fluffy Favourites as well as variants that include 30, 36, 50, 76, 80 and 90 ball games. However eagle-eyed players (or bingo writers who may not be totally up to date) may have noticed a few rooms have gone AWOL. A quick scan through the roster and it seems that Friends Bingo, the first themed game that Foxy added when in it's new home, and Cash Out Bingo, an innovative approach to the 90 ball game, have both gone AWOL. We haven't seen any announcements or notices so for now will assume that these games have gone to the big bingo caller in the sky.

The One Where Friends Bingo Closes

Friends Bingo launched on Foxy back in 2019 and was the first themed game launched on the new GVC/Entain platform. The game as it happened turned out to be a forerunner for Gala's Coronation Street Bingo that would eventually move to the Entain platform. The main 90 ball game played as usual but it also included a community ticket and a team element. In many respects Friends was a strange choice for a TV themed bingo room. The show had been on the shelf for several years and despite plenty of rumours has never returned as a series or film. However it still maintains a cult status and people love the characters like Joey, Ross and Rachel. However although the game itself featured things like a Central Perk Jackpot and a few graphics as a nod to the series in our view it never quite hit the Friends zone. In our review we noted that the game "does lack a bit of oomph" and that players hadn't really taken to the room. Friends Bingo eventually was rolled out on to Ladbrokes, Coral and Gala but it seems that it wasn't successful enough to be retained or even more into The TV Specials room alongside Emmerdale and The Chase?

Cash Out Bingo Cashes Out

In 2020 Foxy Bingo also added Cash Out Bingo to it's roster. This was an innovative idea based on the cash out options offered by bookies. If you place a bet - for example Liverpool to score two goals - then you may be able to cash out your winnings during a match. You obviously don't get the full value of the bet but it's a choice between getting something or losing everything if another goal is scored. Foxy tried to apply a similar process to bingo. Cash Out Bingo played exactly like any other 90 ball game but when you hit 1TG you were offered the chance to cash out and leave the game. The prize offered was never as big as the full house prize but it meant that you left with something rather than nothing if you stayed on 1TG. As an idea we thought it was quite innovative but it was also going to be a difficult concept to "sell" to bingo players. In fact we noted in our article that when we checked into the bingo room that it was quiet and that Foxy would have to work hard to convince players of the idea. The problem is - in our view - that if you've bought a bingo ticket you're buying it hoping to win the full house, not look to cash out for a few pennies.

Bingo Room Closures

Not every version of bingo works or lasts forever. If Friends Bingo and Cash Out Bingo have indeed been dropped by Foxy then they'll join a whole host of closed games that include Bingo Millions, Tipping Point Bingo and Love Island Bingo. We should note that sometimes TV themed games are dropped because licenses to use their names aren't renewed by the operator. However other games get dropped simply because they're not viable and/or attract player interest. We suspect this may well be the case with Cash Out Bingo as conceptually it sounds great but in reality may not be what players want. With Friends Bingo we suspect that it could be because it just wasn't getting the same level of play as Coronation Street Bingo. Dropping games that aren't interesting players is not a bad thing provided that it doesn't become a spiral. Bingo operators need to be careful as sometimes dropping rooms doesn't see players moving to what remains. Instead they move to other platforms which results in more room closures. Foxy should be fine though and we hope that they will continue to try new innovations and ideas.
