What Is The Betfred Nifty Fifty Lottery
Published On 10th August 2022
Lotteries on bookmaker sites have had mixed results over the last few years. Restrictions on betting on the UK lotteries and Euromillions hasn't helped their cause. Ladbrokes for example only offer three markets (49s, Daily Millions and Irish) whilst Unibet have dropped betting on lotto markets altogether. However one bookmaker loves lottery betting and has even gone so far to create their own. Betfred's Nifty Fifty launched in 2021 as a 50 ball game that played 3 times a day and seven times a week. The Nifty Fifty has had a bit of revamp and now plays five times a day and offers you the chance to win up to £5million!
The Nifty Fifty is exclusive to Betfred and gives players the chance to win up to £5million by betting on the outcome of their own lottery game from a £1 per number play (so effectively a £6 bet). Unlike The National Lottery where you select six numbers and aim to match them, with The Nifty Fifty the aim is to wager on whether numbers will be drawn in a game. You can bet on single numbers, accumulators and multiples. The minimum wager is 50p. Five draws take place every day with the exception of Christmas Day. These are at 10.30am, 11.30am, 12.30pm, 2.30pm and 6.30pm. All draws are filmed live from Betfred's own studio and can be watched online.
How To Play Nifty Fifty
To play Nifty Fifty you need to login to Betfred and head to the lottery section. From there select Nifty Fifty and choose 'Bet With New Numbers' if you've never played before. Previous players can return to previously played numbers via 'Bet My Favourite Numbers'. On the number choosing screen you'll be shown options from 1 to 50. You can select from 1 to 11 numbers to bet on. By choosing more than 6 numbers you are automatically selecting to make multiple bets and this will effect your stake. If you can't decide on your choices then a Lucky Dip for 3, 4, 5 and 6 numbers is available (originally the Lucky Dip only allowed you to pick 5 numbers).
The Bonus Ball
You can also toggle your bet to include the bonus ball number or not. Selecting this reduces the odds payable on results so for example matching 6 numbers pays £5million without including the bonus ball but just 150,000/1 if you opt to put it in play (note that this is for a £1 accumulator bet). Once you've selected your numbers you're then asked to pick the draws you want to enter. There are single draw options and week options although a "select all" and "clear all" option could be useful. We're surprised that with their recent revamp that Betfred haven't included either of these much needed tools. Finally remember that by selecting multiple draws then this will ramp up the amount you pay.
Lottery Side Bets
Finally to complete the wager you have to select a stake for each line. The minimum wager is 50p but there doesn't seem to be a maximum. We suspect that there probably is even though you can type several trillion pounds as a wager in the box. If you pick multiple numbers there's also an option to add singles, doubles, trebles, four folds, five folds, Heinz and Lucky 63s to your slip. These options are highlighted under the 'More Bets' button on the wager screen. If you're opting to play multiple lines then you can select these bets per line as opposed to applying the same ones to each line. That said it'd be nice to be able to have an "apply to all lines" option.
Nifty Fifty Winners
After that it's just a case of waiting to see if your selections match the numbers drawn by Betfred. The draws are live although disappointingly you can review previous draw. However the results are listed on the website. Match 1 number (without the bonus ball) to win 7/1 or 6/1 when including the bonus. Match 2 numbers to win 70/1 vs 50/1, 3 for 800/1 vs 500/1 etc. Whilst the results for previous draws are shown what the site lacks is any information about winners. It'd be quite interesting to see whether the game has been successful in creating a five ball winner in it's original incarnation for example. Betfred is obviously happy with their own lottery because they've also added Fred's Number Game which offers a 20 ball and 49 ball lottery game every 3 minutes.
