Although online bingo is still quite popular, many people still make regular visits to their local bingo halls. There they can meet with friends and enjoy a few sessions of bingo. Issy-Mae collected her award at an awards ceremony in Wakefield on Sunday. She was amongst a group of hopeful finalists and despite being just 21 years of age took the title. She's also only been in the bingo industry for two years. Originally starting life at Buzz Bingo in Ipswich before moving to Derby. Participants in the National Game Bingo Caller of the Year competition are required to have a good knowledge of bingo, bingo number calling skills and showmanship. As part of her entry Issy-Mae wowed the judges, that included Miles Baron, CEO of The Bingo Association, by playing the ukulele and an original cover of the track Five Years' Time by Noah and the Whale. After the judging finished Issy-Mae was named as the winner. She follows in the footsteps of Benj Maycock who won in 2022 (and was also a judge) and takes home a trophy and £1000 cash prize. In addition there's also the honour of "serving as an ambassador for the land-based Bingo industry and the National Bingo Game over the next two years".

In other bingo news, Mecca Bingo have teamed up with viral sensation, Spudman, to create a luxurious jacket potato. Move over beans and cheese because Mecca and Spudman have decided that lobster, caviar and truffles are the way forward for the humble spud. Spudman, aka Ben Newman, apparently is a well known food vendor in the Tamworth area with long queues of people waiting to purchase his loaded spuds. He'll be popping up at Mecca Bingo Hull (20th), Mecca Bingo Stevenage (27th) and Mecca Bingo Blackpool (4th).
Life Saving Bingo Trip
When heading out to a bingo hall you're usually hopeful of winning a jackpot (or perhaps even a Jackpot Spud). However Paul Nightingale got a huge "win" whilst visiting Mecca Bingo in Oldbury according to The Birmingham Mail. There he was given an NHS lung health check in a specialist scanning van. The scan proved to be vital to Paul's health as it revealed a "9cm abdominal aortic aneurysm" that required urgent attention. Two weeks later Paul had surgery and remained in hospital for five days. He's now been discharged and is recovering well from the experience.
