Gala Bingo Launch Free Bingo Tournaments

Bingo brands are always looking for new ways to attract players. They might offer prize promotions, daily free games or even big money jackpots. Gala Bingo's latest incentive however borrows heavily from the slots department, namely tournaments. With a slots tournament you get a fixed number of spins and the aim is to score the highest total of points from those spins. If you're amongst the best players then you win a prize - usually free spins. However with Gala's new promotion you're not spinning the reels but playing bingo. They're free to play and you could win a prize if you rank on the tournament’s leaderboard.
How To Play Free Bingo Tournaments
Free Bingo Tournaments launched at Gala Bingo on the 29th February 2024. To play you simply need to login, head to the tournaments page, via the promos section, and opt-in. There's a new game every hour and there are 24 tournaments throughout the day. Each player has 36 tickets and although they'll show a value of 10p each they are in fact worthless. Once it's time for eyes down the tournament game plays as any other 90 ball game but the prizes on offer are points. You collect 100 points for a full house, 50 for two lines and 30 points for one line. Two roll-on jackpots offer 15 points each whilst 10 points are awarded for 1TG, 2TG and Everyone's A Winner. We don't really see the point of the EAW awards as those players with the FH, 2L and 1L are most likely to be at the top of the table. However it should be noted that if there are multiple winners on the main prizes then the points are shared.
Bingo Tournament Prizes
At the end of each Tournament, all eligible players who have gained a ranking in the leaderboard will receive a reward. As far as we understand the rewards will be bingo tickets valued between 1p and 5p. These tickets will be credited to the players account by 6pm the following day and have a 7 day expiry. Any winnings from the rewards will be credited to the player's account in cash. This means that there are no wagering requirements attached to the winnings obtained from those particular tickets. Tickets can be used in any Gala Bingo rooms. A total of 435 free bingo tickets are available to be won per tournament but the maximum number of rewards a single player can win in a tournament is 50. If you're interested then you can review the results of your tournament plays and see how you got on versus other players.
Isn't It Just Free Bingo?
In terms of game play there's no difference between a free bingo game and a free bingo tournament. Both don't cost you a penny to play and you could win a prize. However there's a big difference in terms of prizes. In many free games there's a pot of say £20 and that usually is split between the 1L, 2L and FH winners. Under a tournament system Gala can create more winners but they'll be getting smaller prizes. The maximum win is 50 tickets (so £2.50 at 5p a ticket) but there's 435 tickets up for grabs. Distribute these amongst many players and what you have is lots of players ready to use their free tickets. We're guessing that Gala are hoping that firstly these keeps players involved in the site - by staying on to play their tickets - and encourages them to purchase extra tickets. Bigger prizes, as perhaps offered in a free bingo game, may actually encourage players to withdraw winnings.
Could Tournaments Evolve?
We've not been able to play the tournaments at Gala Bingo so we're a little hamstrung here. However if we've understood the concept then we do think it could be a little bit better. For example it'd be good for players to have a mix of games and not just a 90 ball one. We also think a tournament should be more than one bingo game - so for example 3 games across 3 hours - could make things a little more interesting. Players could also get points for marking specific numbers off their bingo cards. Or perhaps there could be a gamble element included so if a player calls house on a lucky number or collection of numbers then that doubles their score. It'll be interesting to see how bingo tournaments catch on. We expect that if they work out well then Entain will roll out similar (or the same rooms) across Ladbrokes, Coral and Foxy.
