Gala Moves To Shared Wallets

At the end of January 2023 we reported that Foxy Bingo and Foxy Games had combined their online wallets. What this meant was that whilst the two sites remained separate, a player could login and use the same wallet across both brands. Therefore instead of having two indivudual accounts for Foxy Bingo and Foxy Games you would simply have one. At the time we speculated that if this approach could be adopted for Foxy then there's no reason why it couldn't apply to Gala. In fact we did wonder whether if it would roll out further to encompass the whole Entain platform (one account one platform). The latter so far hasn't materialised but the former has with players now able to use one wallet across the Gala brands.
Bingo, Spins & Casino
Therefore if you have an account with Gala Bingo then, once you've logged in, you're now able to transition across to Gala Spins or Gala Casino. and play using the same wallet. From what we can tell, if you had accounts with all three but with the same email address then you now have just one account. We're assuming this because our login for the bingo account works but not the one created for spins. As we mentioned with the Foxy Bingo account merger there are advantages with this approach. It means you only have one account to look after and fund. This means you can set spending limits, deposit limits or even exclusions and that covers you for three brands as opposed to just one. From an admin point of view - for example identifying at risk players - it's a good approach for Entain too. However we've identified an annoying element to the one account approach although this may not effect many players.
Free Daily Spins
All three brands run a daily free spin the wheel game. Now for some reason that we've never identified Gala Bingo decided to no longer make their game accessible to us. It may be down to being an affiliate but other brands don't seem to have a problem. To be fair it's not a big deal but it does make writing about promotions difficult when you can't access them. Anyway prior to the accounts merger it was possible to spin the wheels on Gala Spins and Gala Casino. Now accounts are merged we can't do that. Again the annoyance is more that we can't report on these games or test them for you. Anyway what this demonstrates is that with the one account approach it's much easier for the platform to put restrictions on your account. Whilst this restriction applies to just three brands if Entain eventually move to a one account across all brands then it eventually could mean they could restrict individual player access to selected promotions on Ladbrokes, Coral, Foxy and Gala. Of course it may not happen but you just never know these days with online gambling.
Limiting Player Accounts
Limiting player accounts isn't new. Tombola Bingo and Tombola Arcade for example share the same wallet. The same can be applied to bookies with casino, sportsbook and bingo channels. Foxy and Gala are simply following that model. However we've recently seen Broadway Gaming (the new owners of Dragonfish) close multiple accounts across multiple brands as they look to streamline their player numbers. We suspect that they've simply decided to remove dormant accounts but at the same time it does seem that they could possibly limit players joining new brands. For example if you've joined 888 Ladies then in theory you may not be able to sign up for Wink or even a newcomer like Win It Bingo. This is speculative but everything we're seeing from operators is pointing to reducing the number of accounts players have and can have. At a time when there are less interested bingo players, limited number of good bingo brands and market saturation it does make affiliate life tougher too as it reduces the opportunity for creating new players (for example Fred who's signed up for Gala Bingo wouldn't be able to join Gala Spins as a new player). Will operators take this into account when they assess marketing of their brands by affiliates? Only time will tell.
