According to their own intorduction, Monopoly just got bigger with the arrival of Monopoly Big Event. Developed by Barcrest and powered by Scientific Games, this slot gives players access to all the features of the board game - and more. This includes a Big Event Bonus option that lets you access the bonus games for a hefty pay-in.
Monopoly Big Event is a 5 reel, 3 row, 20 payline slot. It's set on dark red background but look closey and you'll see there's a Monopoly board plus cityscape scene. Despite an art deco design this is not the most stylish of slot games we've seen and there are buttons everywhere. However this was the first Monopoly slot that was designed specifically for mobile casinos and to be fair the gameplay is smooth and functional.
How To Play
Wagering on Monopoly Big Event starts at 20p but can be increased incrementally up to a maximum of £500 (Jackpotjoy). This upper limit may vary from site to site. An Autoplay features gives you the choice of 5, 25, 50 and 100 Autospins plus a facility to stop this play based on losses and wins. You can play Monopoly Big Event on desktop, tablet and mobile.
On the reels you'll find Rich Uncle Pennybags alongside game tokens such as the dog, racing car, battleship and cat. These are joined by the playing card symbols of A, K, Q, J and 10. Wilds and scatter symbols make up the remainder of the reel roster. Moneybags and wilds are the highest paying symbols and will pay x2000 on a row of 5 of a kind. The battleship pays x1000 whilst it's x500 for the racing car.
Bonus Features
Monopoly Big Event has a number of features including wilds. Get three or more Big Event symbols to activate the bonus round. $ or 5 scatters allows you to have a sneak peak that reveals the positions of houses or hotels. During this round you'll come across houses, hotels, Community Chest cards and Chance Cards. The bonus round can generate you guaranteed wins or spins with Persistent Wilds or Dancing Wilds.
The other feature of Monopoly Big Event is the Big Bet button. Select this option and you can then choose a £20 or £30 game. The former gives you 5 spins with increased multipliers (x1 on first spin up to x5 on the last). Select the £30 game and a bonus wheel spins to determine your choice of bonus - persisiting wilds, epic spins with x5 multipliers or increased multipliers. The Big Bet has an RTP of 99% but don't expect to win on each turn!
The Verdict
Big Event promises a lot but we found that it under delivers. The Big Bet option is fun if you're happy to spend £20/£30 on five spins (£4 and £6 a spin), but even on demo mode it quickly lost it's appeal. It may have an RTP of 99% but we rarely left the bonus round better off than the original wager. The base game is OK but other than waiting for the bonus round there's nothing else to maintain interest. Once you've tried the Big Bet round it's also hard to go back to the base game.
Monopoly Big Event has an RTP of 96% which makes it medium variance. Wins tended to be small and frequent, but you're extremely lucky if the bonus round makes an appearance. Our review of it is as clear as mud but this matches the explanations you'll find on the slot and other reviews. This may be the Big Event, but for us it's been little on excitement and entertainment. Other Monopoly slots and games offer much more.
