Slingo Stampede Review

Slingo Stampede is the latest addition to the slots meet bingo games stable and it's currently exclusive to play at Mecca Bingo. We suspect that will change somewhere along the line as usually happens with exclusive launches. New Slingo games have recently been inspired by slot titles, but other than they're both set in the African Savannah and have the same name, as far as we're aware, Slingo Stampede is not inspired by any of the Stampede slots that are online. Anyway we keep wondering just how game developers can make things different and with 40 plus games now online they surely must be running out of ideas? Well maybe not! Stampede differs from many of it's counterparts because it only gives you five spins and features a 5x3 slot reel and scatter features. This is a similar mechanic to Red Hot Slingo by the way. Are you ready to take on this new game and hopefully Stampede your way up the pay table?

The African Savannah is a popular theme for many slots as elephants, rhino and other wild animals are obviously not regarded as child appealing. Slingo Stampede has a typical bush scene complete with sounds of the Savannah eminating in the background. The 5x5 numbers grid takes centre stage but unusually is squished up a bit to accommodate a 5x3 slot grid below it. The Slingo paytable takes it's typical place to the left but a scatters paytable fills in on the right. Although Red Hot Slingo does have a 5x3 slot we don't think it utilises scatters in the same way and instead pays out when three or more matching symbols appear. However the games are similar because they both only start players off with five spins during the base game.

How To Play Slingo Stampede

The main aim of Slingo Stampede is to get lines - horizontal, vertical or diagonal - of five numbers. The more lines you complete the higher the prize you can win. Wagering on this version of Slingo starts at 20p. This can be increased up to a maximum of £100 . The minimum and maximum wager may vary from site to site. Despite UKGC wagering limit concerns surprisingly the maximum wager at Mecca Bingo is £100 (August 2022). Once you start the game the spins are automatic so you don't need to keep hitting the spin button. Each spin generates up to 15 numbers below the 5x5 grid. If any numbers match then these are marked off and changed to a star. When you complete a row of five numbers then you move closer to unlocking the bonus wheel.

Extra Spins

Once you've accumulated at least 3 winning lines then you start winning prizes on Slingo Stampede. The more lines you create the bigger the prize. During game play you may pick up wilds, super wilds and free spins. Note numbers that aren't highlighted don't get crossed off and Jokers, represented by 'X', are also in play. It is quite possible to get a turn where no numbers are marked off your grid! As mentioned above at the start of Stampede you have just 5 spins - this may seem a little on the tight side but remember you're creating at least 15 lines of numbers for each game. In many other versions you get between 8 and 11 spins with a single line reel. As with other versions of Slingo you may be invited to spin on after the base game concludes and any free spins used. You can then decide to pay the amount shown on screen for an additional spin, collect your prize or end the game. You can only wager-on for a maximum of 40 turns.

Scatter Paytable

During spins on Slingo Stampede you may see Rhino's appearing on the 5x3 reels. These are scatter symbols and you can win prizes by accumulating them during a single spin. A minimum of three scatters will get you a x1 multiplier prize, x3 for four and x5 for five. The more scatters the bigger the prize. Get 10 or more scatters during a turn and you'll win x1000 your initial wager. We did think that the scatter trail held throughout the game but this isn't the case. That does actually make it quite hard to get close to the big prizes although during our trial play we did land 5 Rhinos on one spin (x5 win) and 3 a few times (x1 win). Note that prizes are bigger for scatters than Slingos - a full house on the 5x5 grid will net you x500. It's also possible to win prizes on both paytables and get multiple scatter wins during each game.

Our Verdict

This is an intriguing version of Slingo and again the base game is elevated thanks to the addition of the scatter and 5x3 slot mechanic. The theme is OK although it's difficult to see where there's any scope for Stampeding! It'd be great to see a random feature where extra Rhino symbols are added after a turn or if the Rhino trail was held occasionally. We found it quite frustrating seeing just 1 or 2 symbols on the reels! One thing that was noticeable about Stampede was the number of smaller wins. In Slingo's early days we felt that many of the games were just bottomless money pits, but the algorithm nowadays feels different which makes gameplay more enjoyable. Overall this is another version of Slingo that we'd happily return to again and again. We expect that this definitely won't be the last variant that utilises the 5x3 slot mechanic.
