Pirate's Treasure Slingo Review

After landing in Ancient Egypt for their Cleopatra slots themed game, Slingo are heading to the high seas for the next title. Pirate's Treasure Slingo takes you on a voyage in search of gold and hidden treasure. On the surface this could be any other version of the popular slots and numbers game, but Pirate's Treasure is chockablock with exciting features and a bonus game. Get enough Slingos and you could even be battling other ships to earn a bigger win. Will you have enough cannon fire to send your enemies down to Davy Jones Locker? Cue the Pirates Of The Caribbean music, do your best Captain Jack run and let's take a closer look at this version of Slingo.

Play Pirate's Treasure Slingo

Once you've loaded Pirate's Treasure you're invited to hoist the sales and embark on this quest. The game is set on a pirate ship and we have to say the design is fantastic. The main game area sits on the deck whilst fair winds and blue skies mean the sails are up and feature in the background. Other pirate related items like treasure, an anchor, a parrot and cannonball are scattered across the scheme. The 5x5 grid occupies a cabin area in the centre of the screen. The paytable sits on the left (with the parrot) whilst the game controls are on the right. Gaming Originals have cleverly made the start game button the steering wheel whilst the number of turns available are shown in a compass. It's fair to say this is a very well designed Slingo game!

How To Play Pirate's Treasure Slingo

The aim of Pirate's Treasure Slingo is to create winning lines - horizontal, vertical or diagonal - by crossing off numbers on the 5x5 grid. The more lines you complete the higher the prize you can win. At the start of the game you have just 10 spins which is typical for most versions of the game. On each spin the individual reels below the grid may reveal a number and if these match any on your playing card then they're removed. Numbers are marked with a star so you can see your progress. Spins of the reels are automated so you don't have to do get too involved with the game play. However you are required to pick which numbers to cross off if/when wilds and super wilds appear on the reels. Wilds and super wilds appear as the pearl shells and giant octopus respectively during game play.

Pirate Treasure & Scatter Rewards

Also on the reels you may see treasure chests. Get three or more of these to activate a scatter bonus round. During this round you'll potentially get to spin gold, ruby and diamond wheels to generate a multiplier win. The minimum prize is x2 and the maximum x100. Unlike other Slingo versions, Pirate's Treasure has another reel on the right of the grid. In this area cannons will appear. They are activated when the pirate captain appears at the foot of the screen. If he appears then numbers may be bombed off the grid to help your quest to climb the paytable. To win on this game you need to reach at least 3 Slingos, but to play the bonus round you'll need to achieve a mimimum of 6. In order to give yourself the best chance of winning there is the usual Slingo wager on option. With Pirate's Treasure you can spin up to 40 extra turns.

The High Seas Bonus Round

If you reach six or more Slingos then you win a cash prize as well as get to play in the bonus round. This is a fun part of the game although your interaction is absolutely zero. In the bonus round you can face up to six Man-O-War ships as well as Corvettes and Frigates. The number of Slingos you've achieved determines your enemy and the number of attacks you can make. The action takes place on a 5x5 Slingo grid and on each spin cannons will randomly appear in the areas at the foot and side of the grid. If a cannon appears then a cannonball is fired at the boats. The aim is to hit and eventually sink the boats. On each spin the boats regroup and change position. The crew firing the cannonballs are not the most accurate and it's quite surprising just how many times they miss a ship sat right in front of them. That said it's actually a really cool feature of the game!

Our Verdict

Over the last year we've regularly come across versions of Slingo that we think have upped the bar from the original base game. It's fair to say that Pirate's Treasure takes that bar and hurls it even higher. There's so much going on in terms of features. You just need to look at some of the early versions of the game to see just how far things have progressed. The design is brilliant and let's face it there's pirates and you can't go wrong with pirates. Well not unless you're the writers of Pirates Of The Caribbean 5. Usually we're not enthused about wagering on but it's worth it just to see the bonus round. What we especially like is that you're guaranteed a cash prize in addition to the bonus. Sadly we didn't get to see the scatter wheels in action but the pirate did pop up a few times during our test play. This, me hearties, is a brilliant version of Slingo.
