Play Starship - 36 Ball Bingo

Published On 27th March 2023

Tombola have already boldly gone where so many other bingo operators have never dared to tread, but they've taken one giant leap into strange new worlds and unexplored galaxies this week with the launch of their latest new addition. It's called Starship and it's a 36 ball bingo game. Now we're not quite sure what we can and can't say about Starship because the compliance legal eagles at Tombola now like to have a list of things that we can and can't tell you about. For example we can mention Bingo30 but we're not allowed to tell you about virtual racing games that involve furry animals. Anyway set your phasers to stun as the countdown to our review of Starship is about to blast into view.

Starship

  • Type Of Game: 36 Ball Bingo
  • Cost: 10p to £2 (Multi-stake Game)
  • Open: 24/7
  • Prizes: Astro Prize & Full House
  • Extras: Space Theme
  • Special Features: Pre-game Game

How To Play Starship

As you'd expect with a name like Starship, it has a space theme that has been inspired by old school space games. Instead of a traditional bingo card with numbers it comprises of numbered spaceships that are unceremoniously blown up by your ship when the numbers are called. It's a 36 ball game which means that rounds do come thick and fast. To play Starship you first need to select a stake. It's a multi-stake game which means all players are involved in the game but the prizes vary depending on your wager. You can choose to play from 10p to £2. Interestingly there's now a double confirmation before you complete the purchase of your ticket. Whilst you wait for the game we suggest you move your mouse around - when on desktop - and see what happens. We could tell you but firstly it'd ruin the surprise and secondly we're probably not allowed too in case it appeals to the kind of people who somehow find us via search and then once decided to visit Tombola go on and somehow manage to bypass Tombola's strict age-gate criterias.

Astro Prizes

Your Starship Bingo card comprises of 12 Enemy Ships and 6 Astro Ships. The latter are shown in gold with the former emblazoned in blue. The 6 Astro Ships essentially represent one line and there's a prize for the first player to blow these out of the skies. Once that has happened any remaining Astros on your ticket turn blue as the countdown to the full house prize gets underway. As well as the two base game prizes there's also a jackpot prize. A jackpot can be won by the first player to destroy all 18 ship on their ticket in 25 calls or less. Graphically it looks great and the space theme adds a nice twist to proceedings. Space type music and sound effects add to the atmospherics of the game although you can toggle these on and off via the options page. You can also set auto-marking and make adjustments to the chat section that accompanies proceedings.

Our Verdict

We feel we could explain more about Starship but we don't know what we can and can't say. If this review ends up being jettisoned into the dark wilderness of space then you'll know that we're not even allowed to review it. Which to be fair might actually not be a bad thing because this isn't our favourite bingo game release from Tombola. And ironically it's because it comes across as quite child appealing in nature. Starship just doesn't feel like a grown up bingo game at all. It's definitely one that may well be enjoyed by a younger audience as opposed to those who prefer their more traditional approach to playing bingo. Starship also suffers from the same issue as every other new Tombola game and that's there's just too many players onboard. We know that they can run games with fixed room numbers so why not do it here? Over time the numbers will obviously come down but it'll be interesting to see just how popular Starship does or doesn't become over the coming months. Sadly it's not a game we'll be seeking out too often.
