Mecca Raffles Continue But Are They Any Good
Published On 15th November 2021
Back in April Mecca Bingo launched a new product that offered their players the chance to win fantastic prizes. Mecca Raffles jumped on the bandwagon of pay to enter prize giveaways that have limited tickets available for purchase. We loved the idea behind the raffles as there are so many pay to enter prize draw sites but none run within a gambling brand's environment that includes safer gambling, deposit limits and responsible play.
So What's Happening With Mecca Raffles?
Just over six months of from the launch of Mecca Raffles and the good news is that the channel is still on the bingo site. The sad news is that the channel is a shadow of it's initial self. When the channel launched it offered the chance to win a year of bingo, the ultimate home cinema bundle, hot tub, £1500 cash, Apple Watch, iPhone 12 and a £100 dining out voucher. They also offered a Mini Cooper as a prize in one raffle too. To enter players could purchase tickets for 50p to £1 and/or enter via a no purchase necessary postal route. The prizes were awarded regardless of the number of tickets sold. The way the prize draws work remains the same but at time of writing there was only one prize up for grabs - and that prize is a £200 Uber Eats voucher.
Win A £200 Uber Eats Voucher
A ticket for this particular prize draw costs just 50p and you can enter up to 40 times. There's a limit of 800 tickets available to purchase. One winner will pick up the Uver Eats voucher whilst twenty further lucky players will be rewarded with a £5 bonus. The bonus is credited as a non-withdrawable bonus with one time (x1) wager requirements. Despite the promotion starting on the 12th November - and concluding on the 21st November - Mecca have sold just over 100 tickets. And perhaps this figures gives us an indication as to why the channel isn't bursting at the seams with "must win" prizes as it was way back in April. The aim of most raffle sites is to make a profit and if they don't make a profit then they at least need to cover the cost of the prize.
How Many Entries?
If tickets are 50p each and only 100 have been sold then that means just £50 has been taken so far in revenue. Assuming Mecca Bingo are paying cost price for the £200 voucher prize then they need to sell a further 350 tickets just to break even. That may well happen as there's plenty of time left for players to participate but will Mecca really get close to the top tier target of 800? Will the prize draw sell out before the closing date of the 21st November? We're not sure that they will and frustratingly there's absolutely no reference to any previous draws/results on the site to see how successful they are with respect to sales. There's not even a list of winners on the Mecca Raffles section although occasionally there's an announcement on the brand's social media platforms.
The Future Of Mecca Raffles?
So since launch Mecca Raffles have reduced the value of the prizes on offer and the number of prizes. From what we can see players haven't quite taken to the giveaways although to be fair they are attracting entries. But is it enough for this particular venture to remain within the Meccasphere. Over the last 12 months we've seen a number of dedicated raffle sites - e.g. The Draw, I Want In, Win This Competitions - all close due to lack of sales. Raffles are a difficult concept to sell although sites like Elite Competitions manage it well. For example they've sold nearly 400 tickets at £13 to £17 for a Christmas bundle. It does take time to build up an active audience of players who are willing to spend money on entries so hopefully Mecca will push on. However we do think more transparency with respect to the draws, tickets sold and winners would be a useful addition should they continue with raffles going into 2022.
