Did Mecca Bingo Break A World Record?

November seems to be all about Mecca Bingo and we're back there again to up date you about their recent Guinness World Record attempt. If you recall the popular bingo brand are celebrating their 60th Birthday and as part of the celebrations aimed to break the Guinness World Records title for the largest online video album of birthday wishes. Players were encouraged to upload a video offering their birthday greetings but the video had to contain the words 'Mecca' and 'birthday' to be valid with respect to breaking the record? But did they do it? Well yes and no is the answer.
Record Breakers
During The Big Birthday Bash, which took place live via Mecca.TV on Saturday 13th November 2021, Mecca Bingo did get a verified world record. This was for the "most videos of birthday wishes/greetings uploaded to a bespoke platform in one hour". The record is already listed on Guinness World Records and if you're interested the number of wishes was 267! The attempt to break the record for most video birthday wishes - which we thought was meant to be concluded in time for The Big Birthday Bash - is ongoing and players can still upload their videos to the website. It's fab that Mecca Bingo now have a world record but it does feel like it's been shoehorned in a little bit to save the party falling flat.

The most video birthday wishes attempt therefore continues and we suspect will result - eventually - in another record for Mecca Bingo. As we explained here there's actually no listed record to actually break. In other words Mecca are the first brand/person to attempt this feat. So why wasn't the record awarded at The Birthday Bash? Did Guinness or Mecca feel that there wasn't enough uploads to warrant a record or perhaps Mecca want to establish a decent enough number in order to be a long term holder. There's nothing worse than putting a lot of effort in to break a record only for it to slip through your hands just moments later. If/when Mecca do get the record for most video birthday wishes then there's a £2500 free bingo session just around the corner.
World Record Attempts
Although there was some world record success at The Big Birthday Bash there were also some failures. TOWIE's Bobby Norris attempted to break the following records: fastest time to eat a jam doughnut with no hands, fastest time to gift wrap the Guinness World Records Book, fastest time to eat a banana with no hands and most sticky notes on face. Unfortunately despite some valiant attempts Bobby failed to beat the records which remain with the following holders respectively: Philip Joseph Santoro (11.41 seconds); Hamda Abid Karim (16.62 seconds); Leah Shutkever (20.33 seconds) and Silvio Sabba (38 in 30 seconds). If Bobby needs some advice about breaking eating records then he should get hold of Shutkever. She holds over 20 different titles including the fastest time to eat 15 Ferrero Rochers.
Birthday Winner Spinner
