Has Love Island Bingo Become Sky Summer

Love Island is back on ITV2 for a 2019 series and for the next few weeks viewers will be glued to their screens as wannabe Z-Lister Celebs battle it out to become pretend couples. The cast includes Yewande Biala, Lucie Donlan, Amber Gill, Joe Garratt, Tommy Fury and Michael Griffiths. Who will win... stay tuned in to find out! However, we've been surprised to discover that there is something missing from this year's show.
Last June, Sky Bingo launched a 90 ball game - Love Island Bingo. This bingo variant based on the popular TV show featured a Community Jackpot plus a daily chance to win a holiday. There was even a Water Bottle Bonus and the chance to "experience all the bantz of Love Island outside of the villa". Although Sky are not our favourite company due to their shoddy treatment of their hard working affiliates we still keep an eye on anything exciting that they offer players. So we expected to see Love Island Bingo return to the Sky Bingo lobby for 2019.
Why No Love Island Bingo?
However, we were as disappointed as the first contestants to leave the villa when we discovered Sky no longer host Love Island Bingo. The closest thing we could find was the Sky Summer Bingo room that's exclusive to the brand. As far as we could tell Sky Summer is simply another 90 ball room and not a made over version of last year's Love Island room. This got us wondering why it's not returned for another season? We narrowed it down to three possibles... 1. Love Island wants to avoid being related to gambling 2. No one was interested in Love Island Bingo 3. The game was not good enough
TV Show Bingo Rooms
We can refute option (1) because Love Island Games and Love Island Slingo still remain a thing. The former hosts the Slingo game plus three instants whilst the latter is now available to play at several casino and bingo brands. If Love Island was worried about being associated with gambling - for example in a similar vein to I'm A Celebrity who got pulled up by ASA recently - then you'd have expected any gambling product with it's name to be pulled from casino and slot rosters.
Option (2) is quite a strong contender. People who enjoy Love Island will be watching the show on ITV2 from 9pm. This is actually peak bingo playing time. Given that there was no rhyme nor reason to login and play Love Island Bingo at that time (for example celebrity bingo callers or chat) then that means the room is simply just another bingo room. Just because you brand a room with a popular TV show doesn't make it a success - does it Friends Bingo?

And (2) leads into (3), the game wasn't good enough. It doesn't matter what you name a bingo room, if the product isn't attractive to players or sufficiently different from other games then why have it at all? Love Island Bingo was a 90 ball room with a Community Jackpot. There was a nice incentive of a daily chance to win a holiday. However even that couldn't make the game interesting or stand out from many other variants available across other bingo sites.
Of course this is all speculation. It could all just come down to simple economics - Love Island has become a huge brand and therefore a branded bingo room would cost too much. Bingo on the other hand is in a bit of a slump. With increased taxation burdens bingo brands need to make sure every penny spent is spent well. There's no point throwing cash at promoting a game that doesn't appeal to the target audience.
