Play Pirates Bingo - 45 Ball Bingo
Published On 1st March 2019
Back in July 2012, Tombola got invaded by pirates and they've been there ever since! Don't worry though as Pirates is the name of a different kind of bingo game. You're invited to set sail and play for a tidy booty of cash to the sounds of sea shanties ala Captain Pugwash and yo ho hos! You can play for one line, a full house and a jackpot in the 45 ball bingo game, Pirates.
- Type Of Game: 45 Ball Bingo
- Cost: 10p to 50p
- Open: 24/7
- Jackpots: Progressive in 26 calls
- Extras: Max 3 cards per player
- Special Features: Pirates are used instead of numbers!
How To Play Pirates
Pirates differs from most other bingo games in that the the numbers have been replaced with piratey items. These include characters such as Pugwash, Shark, Gummy, Levi, Veronica, Flintlock, Treasure, Abraham, Bomb, Burly Pete, Scurvy Rat and of course Captain Hook. The characters are quite funny as they have their own little message when they get drawn. For example Billy shoots the gun whilst Levi calls for all hands on deck. When you first load in Pirates you're offered a selection of four rooms. Two 10p rooms, one 25p room and one 50p room. Make your selection and then enter the bingo room. Inside you'll find a beautiful looking game set up with a Treasure Island beach and seashore noises. For each game you can purchase up to a maximum of three cards.
What Are The Jackpots?
When it's time for eyes down - and you're ready to set sail - the numbers, or pirates, are called. The caller sounds like Mark Williams who played Mr Beasley in the Harry Potter movies and we swear Fred Elliot does the X Marks the spot call. Listen out for it. Anyway as each pirate item is turned, if you have it on your game card then it is covered with a gold coin. Get one line or a full house first and you're in the booty. For the jackpot you need to coverall in 26 calls or less. The jackpot is static but varies from room to room depending on ticket price. For example it's £200 in the 10p room, £500 in the 25p room and £1000 in the 50p room. We'd like to see this actually be a progressive jackpot - a static prize doesn't give you much indication when the jackpot has been won!
Our Verdict
when we first reviewed Pirates back in 2012 we described it as "a beautiful looking game" that "once again demonstrated Tombola's abilities at providing bingo players with quality". We did however feel it didn't really add anything new to bingo - in hindsight that was probably wrong. Having played TV variations and the like, there's actually nothing close to Pirates on any platform. Hopefully Pirates isn't going to sink down to Davy Jones Locker any time soon. It's a fun game and actually is a welcome relief from the traditional number calls. It just goes to show that developers don't need to tweak too much to offer something new. Surprisingly other than Emoji Bingo at Mecca and Rollercoaster, also at Tombola, no one else has looked to develop anything similar to Pirates - and that's a pity.
