Scorching Clouds launched in March 2020 and joined the ever expanding Kingdoms Rise slots world developed by Playtech. The various games such as Forbidden Forest, Reign Of Ice and Guardians of the Abyss are all interlinked by a map plus Features Shop where you can play bonus rounds after acquiring gold coins. However each slot has individual attributes and Scorching Clouds stands out from the crowd as it's a cluster wins slot. It also boasts mutliple features including respins and free games.
Kingdoms Rise Scorching Clouds plays on a 5x5 grid which combines slots with a gems style game. When you load the game you'll be greeted with the grid, which is a bit steam punk in nature and that boasts dragon's heads at the top right and top left. The Chief Engineer, Toredd Danerick, can be seen on the left of the slot and he moves between two consoles. This console oversees a machine that allows the islands of Scorching Clouds to hover with the use of Dragon Eggs. A Game Of Thrones inspired soundtrack accompanies the gameplay. Overall it looks impressive but is it impressive to play?
How To Play Scorching Clouds
As mentioned, Scorching Clouds is a cluster win slot. Instead of having to get a win line of matching icons on the reels you need to get clusters of four or more icons to create a win. Note that for wins to count the symbols must br touching horizontally or vertically. Symbols that are touching diagonally will not count. Any winning clusters are removed from the grid and non-winning symbols cascade down. New symbols are added to the top of the grid to fill the spaces. This process continues until there are no more wins.
Wagering on Scorching Clouds starts at 10p but can be increased to £100 via the left hand side wagering +/- buttons. An autoplay option gives you the choice of playing 5, 10, 20, 50 or 100 slots. Advanced options allow you to stop autoplay based on loss limit and single win limits. Surprisingly there doesn't seem to be the choice to stop autoplay if the feature bonus round is activated. An info button to the left and spin button to the right complete the game.
Bonus Round
On the reels are numerous characters and gems. The characters include Sir Jacob Deven (The Royal Knight), Eliana Tolune (The Sky Empress) and Toredd Danerick (Chief Engineer). Tolune is the highest paying symbol and offers a win multiplier of x100 when you get 10 or more symbols in a cluster. Deven and Denrick are the second and third highest paying symbols respectively. Scorching Clouds has a number of game features including a free games bonus round and Dragon Egg Respins. The bonus round is activated when three or more free games symbols appear anywhere on the reels. Players are offered two options - Knight Free Games which give more spins but medium volatility wins or Empress Free Games where they'll be less spins but could result in higher volatility wins. During game play you may also collect Dragon Eggs. Collect six eggs to activate the Dragon Egg Respins feature which reverses the cluster mechanic. Winning symbols remain and losing symbols are removed.
Our Verdict
As part of the Kingdoms Rise stable, Scorching Clouds also offers players the chance to win 1 of 3 progressive jackpots. These are the Epic Jackpot, Power Strike Jackpot which must be won before it reachs £2000, and the Daily Jackpot that must be won before midnight. These jackpots can be won on any spin. Additionally you can earn those game tokens on each spin. Get enough of them and you can use them to purchase bonus round games via the shop.
We enjoyed playing Scorching Clouds especially as it generated quite a few wins. The majority of these are small, but the cluster wins mechanic can lead to multiple win clusters. Both bonus rounds also popped up during our trial. The Free Games was good and generated a x25 multiplier win. However the Dragon Respins was very disappointing and most certainly wasn't worth the time required to collect the eggs. Scorching Clouds has an RTP of 96.93%.
