Slingo Da Vinci Diamonds Review
Da Vinci Diamonds was launched in 2012 by IGT and has become one of the most popular games online. The five column, 3 reels and 20 paylines slot features gems as well as images painted by Da Vinci. The slot now follows in the footsteps of Starburst, Rainbow Riches, Centurion, Lobstermania and Reel King by becoming the theme of a Slingo game. Slingo Da Vinci Diamonds combines IGT's renaissance themed slot with the modern bingo meets slot Slingo to create - in their words - "a new take on this iconic and sparkling game". Whilst the base game will be familiar to regular Slingo players, the bonus feature uses the same reels grid, win line patterns, paytable etc from the original IGT Da Vinci Diamonds free spins bonus round.
After a series of visually appealing Slingo games, Da Vinci Diamonds heads back to basics. This is simply because it emulates the look and design of a slot launched over ten years ago. The 5x5 grid dominates the centre of the screen and the squares look stylish with purple borders and golden numbers. To the left of the grid is an oversized paytable whilst everything else such as the logo and play buttons are on the right. A very blurry river scene in the background holds everything together. Wagering on this version of Slingo, which can be set by selecting the gold cash button, starts at 20p. This can be increased up to a maximum of £5 although this is based on the game being hosted at Foxy Bingo. The minimum and maximum wager may vary from site to site.
How To Play Slingo Da Vinci Diamonds
In addition to being able to set the wager you can also use the in-game options to limit the number of extra spins, maximum extra spin price, total single game stake and total single game loss. These are useful tools to help you keep within your wagering boundaries. The aim of Slingo Da Vinci Diamond is to create winning lines - horizontal, vertical or diagonal - of five numbers. The more lines you complete the higher the prize you can win. At the start of the game you have just 8 spins which is quite low when compared to other versions. On each spin the individual reels may reveal a number and if these match any on your playing card then they're removed. Numbers are marked with a lovely gold star so you can see your progress. Spins of the reels are automated so you don't have to do get too involved with the game play.
Extra Spins
As mentioned 8 turns is quite low for a Slingo game - typically it's 10 or 11. However there's a good reason for this as Da Vinci Diamonds has an extra feature. Whenever a number is crossed off the numbers respin for that column until there's no matches. Additionally, during game play you may get a wild or super wild symbol. These allow you to select numbers on your game card to cross off. Jokers are back for this particular version and are represented by red crosses. Additionally you may get a free spin ball which allows another spin at the end of the game. To win on Slingo Da Vinci Diamonds you need to create a minimum of three lines. This will earn you a x1 win. However like other variants of the game you are encouraged to spin on for the chance to get a bigger prize. You are limited to a maximum of 40 extra spins but do remember each spin does require an extra wager.
The Da Vinci Diamonds Slot Bonus
We should also mention that you can also win by getting 3, 4 or 5 matching wilds/super wilds on any turn. The basic paytable for Inca Trail is typically the same as many other Slingo games. However the game only really gets interesting if/when you create seven lines or more during the base game. This is because you're offered the choice of either taking a fixed multiplier prize or a lower cash amount but also get between 6 and 12 free spins on the Da Vinci Diamonds slot. For example at 7 slingos you can accept a x24 win or a x10 win plus 6 free spins with x1 multiplier on all wins. Complete a full house and the options are x350 or x75 plus 12 free spins with a x10 multiplier on all wins. If you're familiar with Da Vinci Diamonds then you'll know what to expect but if not then you may be surprised by how basic the slot looks and plays. This doesn't detract from gameplay though.
Our Verdict
Da Vinci Diamonds isn't a slot that we've really ever been attracted to so in some ways this version of Slingo is like a first time introduction. We can't say that it'll make us head off to try the slot, but this is still a decent game. Initially the starting eight spins made us wonder whether the designers had taken leave of their senses, but the extra spins when numbers match on the grid more than make up for this. In the games we played we found that completing lines actually seemed a lot easier than in other variants, but maybe we were just on a lucky streak? The bonus game is a welcome addition although the slot does show signs of age. Players still enjoy the likes of Fluffy Favourites and that looks even more antiquated so gameplay is perhaps more important than design. Overall this is another good addition to the Slingo stable and definitely adds a more modern twist to an old classic.
