Bingo adverts are pretty boring these days and we suspect that they're not going to get exciting any time soon. Just a few years ago it wasn't unusual to see pooping pigeons, dancing cacti, dancing dogs, old ladies racing scooters and the occasional celebrity encouraging you to play bingo. Now bingo ads tend to be very tame affairs as under various guidelines they can't appeal to young people. Celebrities will also be banned from gambling ads from October following the arrival of new advertising rules by CAP. One company that won't be effected by all this are tombola. For years they've put out adverts that feature their players and a new one is in the pipeline and you can get involved as tombola have put out a casting call.
How To Apply
If you'd like to be part of the next tombola advert then you need to apply. The first step is to fill in the online form and answer a few questions. The main one is "why do you want to star in our tombola adverts? Tell us a little bit about yourself". To complete the application you also need to send a recent photo via email. We don't know whether tombola are looking for anything specific when it comes to applications but we suggest you try and make your application stand out. You'll need to be confident and happy to get involved with the filming process should you be selected. Tombola ads usually feature players participating in events together and having fun so that's the kind of thing you'll need to be happy to get involved with. Note that because of advertising rules applications can only be accepted from players who are 25 and over.
The Selection Process
If your application is successful then tombola will invite you along to a casting day in May to wittle down players to a smaller group. The casting day is described as "an all-expenses paid trip to spend the day with Chat Moderators and your fellow tombola players". The day will be full of fun, laughs, games, dancing and prizes. From around 100 lucky applicants, about 30 will then be selected for the commercial shoot. The lucky 30 will then be heading to secret locations during the summer with all travel, accommodation and food paid for. Because of the times we now live in, safety of all involved is paramount so tombola will be "asking everyone to do the basics like sanitise their hands, let us know if they're feeling unwell and if possible take a covid test". We're guessing that the TV ad will be ready to roll from September onwards?
Should You Apply?
If you fancy doing something a little bit different then why not apply to appear in the next tombola advert? It'll only take a few minutes to fill in the application - although we do suggest making a little bit of effort answering the "why do you want to star... " question. A good casting photo should also help make your application stand out. Even if you only make it to the casting day then you'll have "won" a fun day with the tombola team but if you do manage to get to the commercial shoot then you'll have an experience of a lifetime. Not only will expenses be paid for, but you'll get to see a TV advert being shot, get involved with all the fun and games that are part and parcel of a tombola advert and get to meet new friends who enjoy many of the same games that you do too. It's a win win for all!
The Best Thing You Ever Do
Don't take our word for it, check out the 20 second video that accompanies the tombola advert casting information. Past stars of previous ads explain - very briefly - what they had to do and what they got from the experience. Those involved in the clip explain that they had to do challenges as well as do plenty of dancing. One guy is even shown handling a snake which to be fair might not have the desired effect in getting applicants. They also reveal that it was an amazing experience and that they'd made friends for life.
