Bingo Sites Launch Their Own Slingo Games

Published On 26th October 2021

Slingo is a slots meets bingo game that's incredibly popular and that has spawned numerous variations on the theme. These include games inspired by Rainbow Riches, Starburst, The Chase, Monopoly and Deal Or No Deal. The latest trend within Slingo however is for bingo brands to get their own branded version. Players who drop in on the likes of Paddy Power, The Sun and the recently relaunched Heart will all find branded Slingo games to play. So how are these games different to the other variations and what are they like to play? We thought we'd take a closer look.

Bingo Branded Slingo Games

To date we're only aware of Heart Slingo, The Sun Slingo and Lucky Pants Slingo at Paddy Power but expect other brands may follow suit. The design of the game is very basic and features the 5x5 grid, a paytable and a pot of balls that represent your various turns. The colour, background and features on each game are indicative of the brand so Heart has hearts, Paddy Power has lucky pants and The Sun has copies of a newspaper. Other than branding there's absolutely no difference between the way that any of these games actually play. None of them have any special features or bonus rounds exclusive to their home.

What Is Slingo?

If you've not played Slingo then where have you been hiding all this time? As mentioned above it combines a slot element with bingo to bring together an instant win game with just a smidgeon of strategyt. The aim of any version of Slingo is to complete as many lines within the 5x5 grid as possible. This is done by spinning the numbers reel at the foot of the grid - for a number of turns - and marking off numbers as they come up provided of course they match numbers on the grid. To assist you in your endeavours there are jokers, super jokers and bonus spins. However there are also devils which don't help you at all. At the start of the game you get a fixed number of spins but in Slingo you're invited to wager on.

50 Ball Slingo Games

In these bingo branded versions of Slingo you start with just 8 turns - which is quite low compared to more recent releases. We think that the reason for this is because bingo branded Slingo is a 50 ball game whilst other variants use 75 numbers. To play you simply select your wager and start the number spinning. The minimum wager at all sites we visited was 20p but the maximum varies. For example at Paddy Power their Lucky Pants Slingo game only allows a £2 maximum wager - and it's the same story at Heart. However over at The Sun you can wager up to £100. Something to remember when The Sun run any articles about safer gambling in the future. As well as setting your wager there are also options to manage your play based on extra spins, game stake and losses.

Win Up To x2000

Of course the more you wager the bigger the prizes and because of their £100 max wager limit you could potentially win up to £20,000 at Sun Bingo. The maximum prize at Paddy Power and Heart is £400. In both cases this is x200 your stake which is quite low for a Slingo game. To achieve these heights however you will need to get a full house on your game and we're pretty sure that's quite a rarity. Interestingly you can win prizes by achieving just one line which is unusual in a Slingo game. Again we suspect that this comes down to the fact that it's a 50 ball game and you only have 8 initial spins. However don't get too excited because you will still need at least 3 Slingos to get your stake back. One line only pays 10% of your initial stake!

Our Verdict

We're big fans of Slingo and there are some cracking versions of the game. But we're not convinced that these branded bingo versions are as good as the likes of Lobstermania and many others. Branded games such as Slingo and Megaways (as is very popular right not too) mean a site looks like it has some "exclusives" for their players but ultimately they are the same so really what's the point? Surely it's better to feature good versions of Slingo rather than push lesser versions simply because they are branded? Anyway it'll be interesting to see how things develop with respect to bingo branded Slingo games. Will more sites jump on the bandwagon leading to more game development and better versions? Or will these versions be pushed down the slot listings and left to gather dust? Only time will tell.
