Mansion Casino Are Leaving The UK Market

Last month we told you about the closure of Genesis Global's casino brands and a couple of sites, namely Arcade Spins & Spinzaar, on the Dragonfish/Broadway platform. Sadly the closures, or at least in this case UK departures, continue with an announcement from Mansion Group. As of 12th January 2023 all Mansion's brands have decided to no longer accept UK players. Visitors to Mansion Casino, Casino.com and Slots Heaven are now unable to deposit or play at any of these brands. Furthermore players have to withdraw any existing funds before 23:59 GMT Wednesday, 12th April 2023.
Why Are Mansion Leaving The UK?
We first learnt about Mansion's decision to leave The UK earlier in the month. In an email to affiliates they explained their decison as follows: "Mansion has enjoyed serving UK customers for almost 20 years, but we are all aware of the increasingly challenging regulatory conditions that have led to much narrower paths to profitability and ultimately, the decision that Mansion has taken". Whilst Mansion Casino, Casino.com and Slots Heaven are no longer going to focus on The UK they aren't closing down. Instead they'll be focusing on other markets. Ultimately it's another blow to UK Gambling which has become more and more squeezed due to increased taxations and UK Gambling Commission rules. However the departure of Mansion Casino etc from the region is perhaps not that much of a surprise given that it's less than 12 months since the sportsbook side of the business, Mansionbet, also closed.
"Focus On Casino Brands"
Back in March 2022 the company explained the reason for this was again "UK regulatory environment, non-propriety platform constraints and market conditions". When Mansion announced the end of Mansionbet they also said that they "will focus on its casino brands and continue to operate in the UK, while expanding to other markets such as Spain, where Mansion is operating with MansionCasino, and Ontario where Mansion has applied for a license with its flagship brand, Casino.com". If you visit Mansionbet.com today you'll find a bookmaker comparison site that highlights welcome offers for various brands. We wonder whether this approach will be adopted for the casino brands and that Mansion see a better future in The UK market as an affiliate! It comes to something when an operator potentially sees promoting previous rivals over their own activities. Of course being an affiliate is slightly safer than being an operator as there's no need to worry about losing licences or being fined by The UKGC.
More To Follow
As much as we'd like to say that we'll not see any more brands closing or leaving The UK during 2023 it's highly unlikely. The fact is that regulatory conditions and reduced profitibility will make it harder for many brands to continue. It'll be interesting to see how Ivy (Spinland, Casimba, Spinrider), GoGames (Peachy, Casushi), PlayFrank and even Intouch fair over the coming months. In our view these aren't the best casino options for players and never seem to do well. We'd not be surprised to see closures on both the Dragonfish/Broadway and Jumpman platforms too. If this happens then it'll mean The UK casino landscape will end up being dominated by the big corporations and they'll be little wiggle room for the small fish. In our view this isn't a great scenario as it limits consumer choice. There's also a big risk that players may look outside UK regulated brands to play. Overall The UKGC needs to be wary of allowing too many companies to depart the sector.
