Bingo Boom - Play 90 Ball Bingo

Published On 6th January 2023

Bingo Boom is the latest addition to join the Entain roster across a number of their brands including Foxy, Ladbrokes, Coral and Gala. It's a 90 ball game but has an added twist and that twist is an interactive gems style game that plays during the number calls. This game isn't just there for a bit of fun and to keep players occupied. If you can arrange your gems and earn big points then you can generate a multiplier - which then comes into play if (and only if) you win the full house. It's a clever idea but will it be boom or bust for this variant on the popular numbers game?

How To Play Boom Bingo

Boom Bingo is a 90 ball bingo game and the base game plays exactly as you'd expect. You purchase tickets and wait for the numbers to be called. If you're the first player(s) to complete one line, two lines and a full house then you're a winner. Ticket prices seem to range from 5p to 50p and the maximum buy-in is 48 tickets per game. Pre-buy is available so you can pick and choose when you play. However we're not sure whether pre-buy is a good idea for this game if you're wanting to play when not online. The reason for this is the extra twist which is involved with Bingo Boom. At the top of the bingo cards you'll see a 5x6 grid. To the right of the grid there's a score section and pink left and right arrows.

Bingo Boom Gems Game

On each bingo call a coloured gem appears at the top of the grid and drops down the centre column. The colour of the gem is related to the number call. Your task is to manoeuvre the coloured gems to form lines of three of the same colour either vertically, horizontally or diagonally. The latter is useful to know because we didn't realise this until about the third try! It pays to read the blurb when you first enter the Bingo Boom room. As you create lines of three these are removed from the grid and your score increases. As your score increases the multiplier also increases although we're not sure how many points you need to get past x1 because so far we've not managed to do it. If you - as we did a number of times - end up filling the grid then the gems game is over. Note this doesn't put you out of the bingo game as that goes on as you're playing. If you win the full house prize then this is multiplied by your multiplier score.

Clunky Game Play

If you've ever played any gems like game before then you'll quickly get the hang of Bingo Boom. There are few things we noted during play. Firstly there's no early indication of the next coloured gem. Once the number is called it appears ready to drop and you need to be Johnny On The Spot to move it to the area. You do also need to concentrate as a few times we ended up clicking right instead of left which was very frustrating. This usually occurred after the one line or two line winner was announced. As in other 90 ball games a winner is announced with a flashy big image on screen but in Boom that overlays your game and you need to get yourself set to carry on with the next call. You can click off the winner announcement by hitting the 'x' in the top right when it flashes on screen. This is useful but just get yourself set for the next gem. Overall the gems game just feels a little bit clunky although that is on desktop so it may fair better on tablet or mobile.

Our Verdict

Bingo Boom is an interesting concept and kudos for Entain for bringing something new to the party. One thing we do like is that you can play the Gems game whether you've decided to buy one ticket or maxed out. As we've outlined above the Gems game itself does feel a little bit clunky, but that may be slightly down to the user's ability (i.e. we're not very good with these kind of games). According to the information we've seen you can win up to x2000 as a multiplier although how anyone even manages to get past x1 is a bit of a mystery. One observation we have made about Bingo Boom is that the Gems game kind of detracts from the actual bingo itself. The 1L and 2L winner announcements are annoying interruptions as you aim to get a high score. Another point to make is that playing the game also means little to no chat as players are pre-occupied. What we would like to see is a little score table at the end of the game showing who did the best on that round. This could spark a bit of inbetween game chat and provide an additional competitive edge. Overall Bingo Boom is a clever idea and it'll be interesting to see if this game within a bingo game notion catches on.
