Umbingo Closes After Just Six Months

Usually at this time of the month we're reeling off a list of closures on the Cozy Games platform. Surprisingly that's not the case at least so far. This means that the likes of Carbook, Vampire, Gravy Train, Lucky Puppy and LMAO all live to fight another day. However the same can't be said for a handful of Dragonfish powered bingo and slot brands including one that's only been open six months.
Umbingo.com launched in February 2019. It received plenty of good reviews and comments such as "a pleasant place to play", "a new site with plenty to offer" and "fantastic if you enjoy bingo". The brand adopted a jungle theme complete with toucan and most certainly took it's influence from the popular children's drink Umbongo. One bingo portal even commented that this influence actually "elevates the site to even greater heights". In a time when The UKGC is trying to reduce the influence of gambling on those under 18? Really?
Closed After 6 Months
Of all the reviews we've seen just a couple alluded to the Um Bongo link. However only one site - that'll be us - felt that Umbingo.com was not a sensible name for a bingo brand. We didn't include the site in our reviews or listings and we did wonder whether the brand would have issues. It looks like we may have been right as Umbingo.com has now closed down - just six months after opening it's doors.
Whilst we're not aware as to why Umbingo.com has closed, we'd be unsurprised if it was due to a trademark issue. Of course it could be down to not generating enough player interest. However other sites have launched on the Real Money Network over the last 12 months and not closed their doors. If it's not that then it's closeness to something associated with children is possible. And the closure of a slots brand - plus possible bingo brand - could support that theory.
The Force Is Not Strong
Also joining the long list of closures is Slots Force. This was a space themed Dragonfish Slot brand in the same stable as Costa Games and Slot Crazy. It utilised the line 'May The Slots Be With You' which links it to a franchise popular with children. Coincidence? Well maybe! It could also be because 888, who purchase the site from Intertain, have decided that it's one brand too many for their stable. However there's more evidence to consider.
Each month we review the brands that are active and inactive on various licences. Joining Umbingo and Slots Force as inactive are Bingocalling.com, Bingodome.co.uk, Casinoheads.com and Farmyardbingo.com. However the latter - also purchased by 888 from Intertain - is still active. We're wondering whether it's theme is the reason behind it's possible forthcoming demise.
