Platooners Slot Review
When we first spotted Platooners among the new slot games we expected a game based on the 1986 movie starring Charlie Sheen. However, there's no relation between the two other than both are war and movie related. Elk Studio's Platooners is a more cartoon inspired game set on a film set.
Platooners vs Snakes Of Fortune to give the game it's full title is a 5 reel slot with 178 ways to win. The game's backdrop is jungle whilst movie cameras feature at the front. The reels are like old school movie reels and overall the look is excellent. Jungle sounds and music accompany the game play.
Betting Strategy
The main icons are identity bracelets, knives, medical packs and binoculars. Not the kind of thing you'd expect given the cartoon nature of the game's intro, but times have changed with online slots. The card symbols of K, J, Q and A complete the icon set - and these are joined by wilds and a scatter symbol. Incidentally the card symbols look quite like they've come straight out of I'm A Celebrity! Wagering on Platooners starts at 20p and can increase up to £100. This game also has a Betting Strategy feature. Choose from no strategy, optimizer, leveller, booster and jumper. These options will adjust your wager depending on your win rate or balance. We're not fans of the feature but they're worth playing with once in a while.
Snakes Of Fortune
The main bonus feature - Snakes Of Fortune - is activated with 3 or more scatter symbols appear on the reels. The bonus game starts with 15 rounds of ammunition and the aim is to defeat the snake and hopefully collect higher payouts. We'd love to be able to explain more about this round, except after multiple plays we saw no sign of it ever appearing. Another feature that was AWOL was the randomly triggered action spins. These are rockets, grenades and bullets respectively. Each action either creates identical symbols or add wilds to the reels. It'd have been nice to have seen at least one of these in action.
The Verdict
Elk Studios have added another exciting slot to their roster. Platooners vs Snakes Of Fortune looks great and is perfect on mobile, desktop and tablet. The theme is well executed and the cartoon style more adult in nature. We'd have loved to have seen the bonus features in action - perhaps they'll appear when we revisit the game again. The betting strategy feature is unnecessary and doesn't add to the game. The theoretical payout (RTP) of Platooners is 96.3%.
