Safer Gambling Week 2023
Published On 14th November 2023
Safer gambling is a mantra adopted by all UK bingo, casino and sportsbook brands throughout the year, but for one week during November this important aspect of online play gets extra attention. Safer Gambling Week 2023 runs between the 13th and 19th November and aims to promote "safer gambling across the UK and Ireland with the support of a wide range of partners". As an affiliate of many of these partners we also believe in safe play and responsible gambling. But what is safer gambling? Well this can include limiting time spent wagering, setting up limits on deposits and blocking access to online gambling sites. The good thing is that there are plenty of great tools available on all big UK brands to assist.
Let's Talk About Safer Gambling
This year's Safer Gambling Week aims to cover three areas with respect to online play: Talking about safer play, taking action and seeking support. If you're concerned about your own activity or that of a friend or relative then talking about the issues can help you to help yourself or help them. Safer Gambling provides some useful content to help you talk about the issues including links to Gamcare Online Forums. Problem gambling is a difficult issue to raise and also face but there are plenty of support options. The idea of Safer Gambling week is to take time to reflect and think about your activity. Mind you we feel that this is something all players should be doing every day, week and month that they play. Support services like the National Gambling Helpline aren't just there for players and can advise how you may be able to help someone who may have a gambling problem.
Safer Gambling Tools
If you're a player then we strongly advise using tools such as deposit limits, time limits, breaks and exclusions to ring fence your activity and to check in on it and regular intervals. Remember these tools are for all players and they're well worth checking out. All brands will provide you with data such as how much you've deposited, wagered and spent timewise online and this can be useful to assess whether you're spending too much money and time. If you need to take a break from gambling then time outs and self exclusions are useful. These will usually apply to an operator as opposed to a specific brand so that limits temptation. If you need to go further then there are tools available that block access to gambling advertising on social media, block access to gambling websites and/or block payments to operators from your bank.
If you do gamble online, whether it be bingo, slots, casino games, sportsbook, poker, lottery, pay to enter raffles etc. then there are some simple steps that you can follow to help you gamble responsibly
- Don't think of gambling as a way to make money
- Set your limits
- Only spend what you can afford
- Never chase your losses
- Don't play if you're angry or frustrated
- Never put gambling before family or friends
Like many in the industry, Loquax is committed to responsible gambling. If there is anything on the site that you feel we can improve upon to further this cause then please feel free to contact us.
