If on Christmas Day at 9am there's snow on the ground at London Heathrow then five lucky winners will become millionaires. Sadly the definition of snow on the ground is a little bit more than one snowflake in this case. According to the terms and conditions the definition of snow lying is as follows: "snow lying is determined using data and a measurement protocol provided by the MET Office and verified by WeatherNet, a leading UK independent weather analytics company. The measurement protocol has existed for 74 years at London Heathrow and requires 50% of the level ground in the observing site to be covered by at least a dusting of snow". One thing worth noting is that if there isn't any snow then Betfred won't have to dish out any prizes whatsoever. Whilst we like the prize money on offer we do wonder whether some consolations prizes wouldn't go amiss just in case it's not a White Christmas at London Heathrow.
Will It Be A White Christmas
We're guessing that Betfred have calculated that it's unlikely to be a White Christmas. That way they can maximise enthusiasm and interest in the promotion whilst being fairly confident that it's not costing them that much in prize money (and it wouldn't be a surprise if the £5million is an insured bet anyway). Long range weather forecasts are usually hit and miss - a bit like short range ones - but Will I Get A White Christmas suggests there's a 25% chance of snow fall at London Heathrow on the 25th December. We've no idea what they base that stat on! Mind you a recent report in The Mirror indicates that a white Christmas looked "increasingly likely". But what the forecasters think actually doesn't matter. Get your free entry in as soon as possible, maybe add a couple of more entries if you're happy to place bets with Betfred as we head towards the big, then spend the rest of the time praying for snow.
