The Chase Live Review
The Chase is more well known as the popular TV Quiz Show that's hosted by Bradley Walsh. However the show has managed to follow partially in Deal On No Deal's footsteps to become a worthy theme for online slots, slingo and bingo rooms. Things have now taken a step further with the arrival of The Chase Live at Gala Bingo. If you're thinking this is your chance to test your general knowledge against The Chasers you're going to be disappointed because this is a game of chance that features plinko, dice and bingo balls!
How To Play The Chase Live
The Chase Live is played in a live studio with a real life presenter. The studio features a large Plinko game board and a lot of neon blue lights. You'll see a few The Chase logos scattered around just to give you a nod towards the game's theme. The base game in The Chase Live is played on a Plinko board. Just in case you're unaware, Pinkio is a classic game of chance where the player drops a ball in a multi-row pin pyramid. Before the ball is dropped by the presenter you're invited to bet on the outcome of the ball drop. You can choose on various multipliers (x3, x4, x6, x8, x10 and x12) as well as two potential bonus games that are Head To Head and The Final Chase. At the end of the round of betting, the presenter drops the ball to see where it ends. If your multiplier bet matches where the ball drops then you win that prize. If the result is a bonus game - and you've bet on that result - then the game moves to play those bonus rounds.
Head To Head
In Head To Head the famous ladder that's a feature in The Chase's round when contestants take on The Chaser comes into play. However instead of quiz questions the movement down the ladder is determined by rolls of a dice. In fact two dice are in play - one for the player and one for The Chaser. Players are given a head start and every blue dice result moves you 1, 2 or 3 steps down the ladder. It's 1 step for rolling a 1 or 2, 2 steps for rolling a 3 or 4 and 3 steps for rolling a 5 or 6. The red dice is for The Chaser and they too can move 1, 2 or 3 steps based on their roll. The aim is to stay ahead of The Chaser in order to win a multiplier prize. However if you're caught then The Chaser wins, but you still get a consolation win.
The Final Chase
The Final Chase is based on the final round of The TV Show, but instead of questions you need to rely on the luck of the balls. If you get to play the bonus game then you need to pick 3 out of 6 bingo balls from the bingo draw to beat The Chaser and move along the horizontal ladder. Each ball you choose and move you up to four steps and the further you get along the ladder the greater your final multipler. Three balls are then drawn to determine the position of The Chaser. If you stay ahead of that position then you win the multiplier otherwise you'll end up with a consolation.
Our Verdict
Playtech have done their best to weave the fabric of The Chase into this live game show, although this really only comes to the fore when the bonus rounds are in play. For the remainder of the time it's all a bit flat. It lacks the spark of Bradley Walsh and/or the presence of The Chasers and whilst the live presenters do their best it's just not Walsh et al. We do wonder whether the presenter we saw actually knew what the quiz show was about as they laboured through the proceedings. The base Plinko game is OK but we want The Chase experience and that just doesn't watching a presenter drop a ball down a playing grid. The bonus games are a different story though and this is where The Chase Live works best.
