Slingo Bells Review
Christmas themed slots have become increasingly popular and so it's no surprise to see Slingo jump on the festive bandwagon. Just before Halloween they launched Slingo X-Scream and they've now followed that up with the cleverly named Slingo Bells. As you'd expect this title takes the slots meets bingo game and marries it with Santa, Bells and Christmas lights. But what's the result? Is it along the lines of Mariah Carey's All I Want For Christmas that will be rolled out every year for now and ever more? Or will it become as obscure as It Must be Santa by Bob Dylan?
Of course Slingo Bells takes it's name as a play on Jingle Bells - they are clever these game designers. When you load the game there's a nice winter scene featuring Santa (who to be fair looks more stern than jolly). The weather outside is frightful but inside it's delightful with festive lights and wreaths. It's everything you'd expect from a festive themed game. When you get to the actual game the 5x5 grid domainates the screen but there's some nice touches to admire. The paytable to the left is designed as Christmas stocking and the Slingo turns (represented by balls or baubles) are contained within a giant bauble. Christmas lights sparkle in the background as you play and there are bells and jingles to complete the xmas atmos.
How To Play Slingo Bells
The main aim of Slingo Bells is to get lines - horizontal, vertical or diagonal - of five numbers. The more lines you complete the higher the prize you can win. Wagering on this version of Slingo starts at 20p. This can be increased up to a maximum of £100. The minimum and maximum wager may vary from site to site. In addition to being able to set the wager you can also use the in-game options to number of extra spins, maximum extra spin price, total single game stake and total single game loss. These are useful tools to help you keep within your wagering boundaries. Once you start the game the spins are automatic so you don't need to keep hitting the spin button. Each spin generates up to 5 numbers below the 5x5 grid. If any numbers match then these are marked off on the grid.
Scatter Prizes
Once you've accumulated at least four winning line then you start winning prizes on Slingo Bells. The more lines you create the bigger the prize. During game play you may pick up wilds (presents), super wilds (santas) and free spins but look out for the joker symbol (a cross) as this prevents you from marking off a number. In addition you may get a coins symbol on the reels. If this crops up then you've won an instant cash prize. Scatter prizes can also be won if you get 3, 4 or 5 wilds on a single spin. At the start of the game you have 11 spins but like other versions of Slingo you may be invited to spin on after the base game concludes and any free spins used. You can then decide to wager the amount shown on screen for an additional spin, collect your prize or end the game. You can wager-on for unlimited turns which is different to more recent versions.
Win Up To x1000 Your Wager
The prizes you can win from creating lines are all cash prizes and prizes start at four slingos which is quite high. The lowest prize you can win is x1 the wager and this increases to x1000 for a full house. In comparison to recent additions to the Slingo stable these isn't the most generous of paytables. The top prize is a little bit more generous but collecting prizes for four lines is a tough task with just 11 turns. The fact that players can play on with infinite extra turns (and wagering in the process) suggests that the basis of the game is to play on to maybe get a win. The additional scatter and coin prizes are a nice bonus but they're not going to show up on every turn.
The Verdict On Slingo Bells Review
If you enjoy playing Slingo then there's nothing within Slingo Bells that would make you change that view. But chuck all the discarded wrapping paper in the bin and melt away the winter scenes and you're simply left with - well - Slingo. We do feel a bit Grinchy in dismissing it but in our view it just lacks something unique to make it really stand out. It does look good but then it's hard to make something look bad with Christmas lights and snow. That's not to say we didn't have fun playing Slingo Bells, we did, but we'd have the same amount of fun playing other versions of the game but wearing a Santa Hat, enjoying a Christmas Playlist and enjoying a mince pie or two.
