Accompanying Gonzo on his quest is a real life game show host. They occupy the right of the screen and are dressed like explorers from the aforementioned movies. In the middle of the screen is a huge grid (7x10) and this is where all the game action occurs. However before you can play Gonzo's Treasure Hunt you do first need to enter a screen-name.
How To Play Gonzo's Treasure Hunt
The aim of the game is to wager where you think various numbered treasures will appear on the grid. There are six choices brown, orange, purple, green blue and red and they pay multipliers of x1, x2, x4, x8, x20 and x65 respectively. Before the game plays you're invited to wager on the various numbers. You can choose all numbers or just one. Wagering starts from 10p but you can bet up to £100. Once you've decided the treasures to bet on you then can choose how many squares you want to select. These are represented by hands. You can select up to 20 hands but remember your wager will be the total placed multiplied by number of hands. Once your wager is set you simply need to pick the squares on the 7x10 grid that you think are hiding Gonzo's Treasure.
How To Play Gonzo's Treasure Hunt
When all bets are locked in the 7x10 grid is wiped clean. Multipliers (e.g x2) and additions (+10, +20, +50 etc) appear at the top of the screen and these may fall into the grid to increase individual prizes. The game gets underway by revealing the squares with the x1 icons, then the x2, x4, x8, x20 and finally the single x65. You win if the multiplier behind the square that you've picked matches the treasure you've chosen. If they match then you win the multiplier plus your stake back. To win big on Gonzo's Treasure Hunt you really have to hope that you've selected the x65 square or a square that's been boosted.
Gonzo's Treasure Hunt Strategy
In our view Gonzo's Treasure Hunt is purely a game of luck and there isn't any real strategy involved. In our view you either have the choice of betting on all treasures and therefore guaranteeing a prize on each turn or focusing on the higher value squares. If you choose to bet on all treasures then you need to achieve x8 or higher in order to get a profit. However as only 6 squares will be x8, 2 squares will be x20 and 1 square x65 (without accounting for multipliers or boosts) then the chances of profiting on Gonzo's Treasure Hunt is limited. Of course you can increase your chances of winning by purchasing more squares but then this does increase your stake. Focusing on the higher treasures only is high risk and can also be expensive.
Our Verdict
Gonzo's Treasure Hunt is another exciting addition to the live game show roster. The game is easy to play and the hosts plus Gonzo make it a fun interactive experience. Graphically it's stunning. However it's less of a gambling experience like blackjack or roulette but more of a slots bonus round where you pick an object to reveal a prize. As a game show we do like it but just be aware of the RTP of 95.56% (optimal). We found during our trial of the game that very rarely did we win back more than our initial wager. The reality of Gonzo's Treasure Hunt is that Gonzo is getting more of your cash whilst you're searching for his treasure.
