Slingo Cleopatra Review

Slingo Cleopatra is the latest version of the online game that is themed on a popular slot. It joins the likes of Rainbow Riches, Starburst, Fluffy Favourites and DaVinci Diamonds. Cleopatra is a legendary slots game that originated in casino halls. Developed by IGT it is a five reel 20 payline game with an ancient Egyptian theme and an iconic bonus feature. Gaming Realms have integrated the slot cleverly into the Slingo mechanic. However unlike other versions of Slingo, where players can win cash prizes or bonus rounds, in Slingo Cleopatra the prizes are just spins. Players can win up to a maximum of 90 spins on the slot plus more spins can be won with the scatter bonus.

Play Slingo Cleopatra

As you'd expect Slingo Cleopatra draws it's inspiration from the popular slot which in turn draws it's inspiration from Ancient Egypt and the legendary Queen. The background nods towards Egypt with Pyramids and temples although the latter do look a little more Greek. The 5x5 grid is integrated into some kind of ancient monument (possibly even a mausoleum) and gameplay is accompanied with an appropriate soundtrack. The paytable and other features of the game are highlighted in gold to give a rich royal feel to the game plus there's a Sphinx atop the Scatter Award section. The Slingo numbers are generated beneath the main grid. Wagering on this version of Slingo, which can be set by selecting the cash button, starts at 20p. This can be increased but the wagering maximum will always be dependent on the host site.

How To Play Slingo Cleopatra

The aim of Slingo Cleopatra is to create winning lines - horizontal, vertical or diagonal - by crossing off numbers on the 5x5 grid. The more lines you complete the higher the prize you can win. At the start of the game you have just 10 spins which is typical for most versions of the game. On each spin the individual reels below the grid may reveal a number and if these match any on your playing card then they're removed. Numbers are marked with a Scarab Beetle so you can see your progress. Spins of the reels are automated so you don't have to do get too involved with the game play. However you are required to pick which numbers to cross off if/when wilds and super wilds appear on the reels. Wilds and super wilds appear as the Eye Of Horus and Cleopatra respectively during game play. Look out too for blockers which essentially means you miss a turn.

Free Spins & Scatter Rewards

Another symbol to keep an eye out for is the scrab beetle as when this appears it lights up and provides you with an extra free spin. Joining the wilds, super wilds and beetles are Sphinx Scatter Symbols. Get three or more scatters on the numbers reel and this activates the Scatter Bonus where you can get up to a maximum of 180 free spins. The best chance of getting free spins though is by completing lines and you only need to complete 3 Slingos in order to win. However you only get one free spin. Climb the paytable by completing more lines and you'll accumulate more spins. The paytable can initially be confusing. For four lines it says +2 spins, but you actually win 3 (1 for 3 line and 2 for 4 lines). If by some quirk of fate you get a full house then you'll win 90 free spins on the Cleopatra slot. In order to give yourself the best chance of winning there is the usual Slingo wager on option. With Cleopatra you can spin up to 40 extra turns.

Our Verdict

This is an interesting version of Slingo and fans of Cleopatra will definitely enjoy it. It's beautifully designed and Gaming Realms have done an excellent job theming it to the original slot. Winning spins however does make the Slingo game a little less predictable. In theory it's possible to win say 12 spins for 6 lines and actually not win anything. Likewise you could win 1 spin, get three scatters to activate the 15 free spins bonus round within the slot, and walk away with a decent win. This unknown in our view does influence game strategy. Is it worth wagering on or not when you don't know the guaranteed win amount? Another issue is the number of spins. Now we played a demo version through to the full house and won 90 spins. Spinning 90 times takes a lot of time and it made us wonder why we didn't just use the stake on playing Cleopatra directly and cut out the Slingo middleman. Overall though this is a good addition to the stable and should prove popular with players.
