A Time Based Bingo Jackpot System

Around 10 years ago Loquax introduced a cool new feature to our bingo section. It was called trackpots and it tracked the various jackpots that you could play for at online bingo sites. We had trackpots for numerous sites including Jackpotjoy, Foxy Bingo, Sun Bingo and Wink. Although they couldn't predict the time of a jackpot falling they were a good indicator as progressives would ramp up just before being won. They were a fun feature and even helped us win an Affiliate Award in 2010.
Unfortunately all good things come to an end. Operators stopped providing jackpot feeds which meant it became impossible to track the data. Trackpots without data are simply blank graphs and so we had to close them down. One operator cited data sharing as a problem but we don't think data relating to the size of a jackpot breaches anything. If anything it made the operators transparent as you could see if and when progressives were being won. On some sites the jackpots would drop regularly whilst on others they never seemed to be won at all!
Time Based Jackpot System
Whilst our own bingo trackpots probably will never return, Mecca Bingo have launched a new feature that reminds us of them. On Twitter they've announced the arrival of a "new time-based jackpot system" that "means you can track when a prize is about to drop." We don't know about you but that sounds like a trackpot to us! So what are is the time-based jackpot system at Mecca Bingo?
Mecca Bingo have five premiere bingo jackpots that are on offer hourly, daily and monthly. The jackpots consist of bronze, silver, gold, platinum and diamond. The first three are fixed prizes at £10, £50 and £100 whilst the latter two are progressives. The bronze is won on average every two hours, silver on average twice daily and gold once daily. The progressives are once or twice a month and can be as high as £10,000 (platinum) and £30,000 (diamond).
Jackpots Are Ready To Fall
When playing in a room where these jackpots are available you will see a little crown. Click on the crown and five rings, representing each jackpot, will be shown. The rings will indicate the current progress of each prize. If a ring is completely silver then this means that that particular jackpot is ready to fall. We presume that Mecca Bingo will also notify players when a jackpot is about to drop as we can't imagine players constantly checking the crown to see progress?
It'll be interesting to see if Mecca's time-based jackpot system encourages players to check out games when a prize is about to fall. It'll also be interesting to see if The UK Gambling Commission decide that this mechanic might encourage players to chase wins. They and The UK Government seem intent on ruining pretty much everything relating to gambling based - including affiliates. We'd love to be able to go back to the trackpot days but it's more likely affiliates will be kicked into touch before that ever happens.
