Suits At Tombola Arcade Review

Suits is one of four playing card inspired games that you can find at Tombola Arcade. Like Jesters it's one of two games that are more akin to the video poker genre. Of the two, Suits is probably the closest because it uses five cards to determine win lines. This is the kind of thing you'd expect to find in games like Jacks Or Better, Jokers Wild and Aces & Faces. However this is Tombola and everything they do has a bit of a twist. Suits does indeed use five playing cards to create win lines but there's also a slot machine element involved. Intrigued? Then read on to see if Suits will suit you.

How To Play Suits

Suits at Tombola Arcade is an instant win video poker inspired game. The game looks simple but is well designed. A green playing card table is the background with two playing card spaces on the left and right of a slot machine mechanism in the middle. On the slot machine are playing cards. Wagering on Suits starts at just 5p but this can be increased up to a maximum of £2. Once you've selected your wager two cards are dealt and these occupy positions 1 and 5 on the screen. The reels then spin to determine the other cards in your hand. Suits pretty much represents the second turn on a poker hand. The first two cards are the ones you've chosen to stick with whilst the three middle cards are the second draw. The reels aren't necessary either but they do make the game a lot more interesting. A soundtrack of piano bar music with some quite noisy patrons adds to the atmosphere.

Poker Hands Win

To win on Suits you need to complete poker hands of jacks or better. A x1 win is awarded for this hand whilst the following can be won for other hands: two pair is x2, 3 of a kind x5, full house x20, straight x25, four of a kind x30, five of a kind x100, straight flush x200 plus the bonus round and a royal flush is a x500 win plus the bonus round. A flush of any kind also results in the bonus round activating. You can also trigger a second chance to enter the bonus round if you are dealt cards with a matching suit or in total you have four cards of the same suit. In the bonus game you win by choosing a card higher than that of the dealer. There are five rounds and the prize increases each round. Aces count as high cards in the bonus round.

Our Verdict

Tombola have come up with a simple but effective way to deliver a Jacks or Better video poker game in a pretty unique format. Whilst it lacks the interactivity of other games of this genre it's still fun to play. For the most part wins are x1 or x2 thanks to one or two pairs, but we did manage to hit a straight for a x25 win. Sadly we didn't discover the bonus round although had a couple of triggers to win a chance to activate it. We also found that you can go through quite a number of rounds with no sign of any win. Overall though we enkjoyed playing Suits and it's great to see that Video Poker can still be an inspiration for developing games. Other game designers could take note.
