Bright Bingo To Move To The Dragonfish Network

Published On 17th April 2018

Just when you think that the bingo world has settled down, more changes come our way. This time it's in the shape of a platform change. Bright Bingo have announced that they are going to be moving to the Dragonfish Network. The move is expected to take place ASAP and emails will be sent out to current players about the forthcoming changes.

In an announcement on their Facebook page, Bright Bingo said that the move "means bigger prizes, many more offers, huge promotions and tons of events to take part in". Players were then told to "sit tight" and watch out for the next exciting update coming soon.

"No Plans For BingoCams To Change"

The Facebook announcement didn't generate many comments. However, one player did suggest that Bright's bigger sister, BingoCams, would then follow suit. However the reply from Bright was that "there are no plans for Bingocams to change now or in the future". Let's hope that's the case, but we do wonder how long BingoCams can remain independent!

One Bright Bingo player was less than enthusiastic about the forthcoming move. Jeremy Fairbanks commented "so you sold us out to probably the worst platform for bingo, much thanks (not) for your loyalty to us". Bright haven't responded to this but it's fair to say that Jeremy isn't a big fan of the move or Dragonfish.

Is This A Good Move?

However, is it a good move for Bright Bingo? The site launched in April 2014 with the "aim of offering loyal players a rewarding experience". It had a multitude of colourful loyalty levels and promised a lot. However, it never really moved out of first gear and in recent years it hasn't been as active as BingoCams in terms of promotions.

The big question is will Bright Bingo fair better on Dragonfish? We're not convinced that it's fortunes will improve. Firstly, loyal players to the brand may be unhappy that things are changing. And secondly, Bright will need to convince other players to join them over the many other "me-too" Dragonfish brands that are already thriving. As sister site to BingoCams it was one of two sites - now it'll be one of 100 or more.

Less Choice For Players

There is some hope for Bright Bingo. The people behind it's initial launch, have since launched brands on Dragonfish. Those brands are Katie's Bingo and Zoe's Bingo. If Bright develops along the same lines then it may be OK. It'll need regular exclusives to shine brightly though - and moving platforms rarely equates to more success.

For bingo, however, this is not a good move. Platform choice for players has become more limited. Dragonfish, Playtech and Cozy dominate the options. Jumpman have multiple sites but very few players, so much so that their bingo sites are becoming more slots focused. It's perhaps ironic that the UK's biggest bingo brand, Tombola, runs on an independent platform. Yet it's pretty unlikely a new site would now ever launch on it's own software.

Bingo Portals Changing Hands

Changes in online bingo aren't limited to places you can play. In recent months some of the UK's biggest bingo portals have changed hands. Bingoport and Free Bingo Hunter have both been acquired by 1st Leads. Oh My Bingo has also been taken over by new owners. Finally, XLMedia yesterday announced the purchase of Which Bingo for an undisclosed amount (iGaming Business).

All this adds up to another busy year for online bingo. We anticipate that there will be more mergers, closures and changes across brands and portals throughout the rest of the year. Whether that will be a good thing for players remains to be seen.
