Play Bingo On Mobile & Bingo Apps?
As online bingo developed the quest to take the numbers game onto mobiles began. Pretty much every year we were told that "this will be the year mobile bingo will take off". There were a number of false dawns, but the arrival of smartphone techonology changed everything. Apps were launched, QR codes used to download sites and sites like Jackpotjoy redesigned to accommodate mobile users. Today every online bingo and slots brand had some kind of mobile presence. In fact we're hard pushed to think of any brand that doesn't work on mobile or tablet. Because of this, it's made this section redundant. If every bingo site offers mobile - whether via a responsive website or app - then there's actually no need for a seperate section. The question is why did it take so long to take off? The biggest problem for mobile bingo was the lack of flash support on iPhones and iPads. Apps and the development of HTML5 meant that bingo brands could easily make the product workable on a smaller screen.

The History Of Mobile Bingo
The early days of mobile bingo - at least for big brands - were actually quite limiting. You could login and play selected games, but not all were available on mobile. In some cases you couldn't do banking, chat or play slots. However, one network led the way with mobile and surprisingly that was Cozy Games. All their sites were responsive, i.e. offered players a usable mobile version, without the need for an app. As technology improved and more and more people became comfortable with iPhones and Android powered mobiles, mobile bingo really took off. Slot sites, like those on the Jumpman Network and Nektan, were developed primarily for mobile. Again apps weren't required. Although visitors to both the Google Store and App Store could find bingo apps from big brands such as Jackpotjoy, Tombola, Gala Bingo and Mecca Bingo.
Best Mobile Bingo & Bingo Apps
Because we're now definately past the "this will be the year..." stage of mobile bingo development it's hard to rate any of the mobile bingo apps as bad. They all offer access to bingo rooms, banking, withdrawals and slots - some even offer chat. In other words you now get the desktop bingo experience on both tablet and mobile. The quality of the app is in essence the same as the ratings we give for our overall site reviews. The bigger brands like Gala, Tombola, Mecca do have the better apps. Dragonfish brands such as Bingo Storm and Bingo Idol don't have apps but rely on being mobile friendly. In our view this experience isn't as good as the app. However it's horses for courses and we think it's now difficult to find a really bad mobile version of any bingo site.
The Future Of Bingo Apps
Developing apps costs money and with budgets getting tighter we're not surprised smaller sites stick to mobile ready versions. Furthermore The UK Gambling Commission will no doubt be looking at how apps are marketed, accessed etc. Just so that they don't appeal to children. Tombola were reprimanded for their I'm A Celebrity App promoting Tombola Arcade during 2018 for example. In addition, we expect Apple and Google to perhaps restrict or even ban gambling apps at some point. The simple fact is that online bingo doesn't actually need apps any more. Most certainly the bingo industry doesn't need any more hassle and restrictions imposed on it. We also suspect that most people use mobile to play slots. This is because slots are much easier to play on the move. In our view mobile bingo is only useful to purchase tickets in advance for a big game or check results. For the immersive chat and roomies experience it's best to play via tablet or desktop.
